Can was founded in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit who formed a group which would utilize and transcend all boundaries of ethnic, electronic experimental and modern classical music. SOON OVER BABALUMA is the sixth studio album by Can, the band's first album without a lead vocalist who does not play an instrument, following the departure of Damo Suzuki. The vocals are taken care of by guitarist Michael Karoli and keyboardist Irmin Schmidt. It is also their last album that was created using a two-track recorder taking the ambient style of Future Days and pushing it even further.
