There's no superstars here – and if you think you know the world of late 70s music, you'll find that you've still got plenty to learn – but maybe that's no surprise, as compilations like this from the Soul Jazz label always end up teaching us plenty about work we never would have known otherwise! This package digs even deeper than some of their punk collections from the same period – and while there's definitely some punky moments, the range of styles is much broader – definitely homegrown and lo-fi at most points, and served up by some very underground British acts who are even on a lower strata than groups recording for indies like Rough Trade or Stiff during the same period! Titles include "24 Hours" by The Squad, "Limited Version" by Krypton Tunes, "Right Way Home" by Xdreamysts, "London" by Gobblinz, "It's Hard" by Plummet Airline, "Something's Wrong With My Baby" by Jeff Hill Band, "It's True" by The Meanies, "Cry Myself To Sleep" by Cosmic Romance, "Forever Crying At Love Songs" by The Tunnelrunners, "Nobody Loves Me" by The Letters, "Hungry" by The Zeros, "Language School" by Tours, "Compulsory Fun" by The Monitors, and "Do So Well" by The Wardens.
